U.S. Senate contests – explaining success

posted by David Nolan on Nov 03, 2010

As Wes Benedict pointed out in a recent message, we had two U.S. Senate campaigns this year that were unusually successful, in terms of vote percentages. Rebecca Sink-Burris received 5.3% of the vote in Indiana, while yours truly got 4.7% in Arizona.

Three-minute statement to Arizona voters

posted by David Nolan on Nov 02, 2010

FOX-11 in Tucson ran this three-minute statement on Sunday; they offered every candidate for a major office the opportunity to do this, but surprisingly few took advantage of it!  The media in Arizona give Libertarians better coverage than in most states, partly because we've earned it!  While you're on their website, check out the statements by Barry Hess and Steve Stoltz too!

Interesting poll results

posted by David Nolan on Oct 03, 2010

Two very informal, unscientific straw polls taken in the last week indicate that my campaign for U.S. Senate has the potential to take off in a big way if we can come up with significant funding. In the online survey taken by KTVK-3 one week ago, during and following the four-way televised debate,  53% of the participants indicated that they thought I won the debate.

A four-way debate between Sen. John McCain, Libertarian David Nolan and a couple of other guys will be televised LIVE on KTVK-3 in Phoenix tomorrow evening at 6:00 pm.  It will also be carried on KTTU-3 in Tucson. Notes from the Campaign Trail

Earlier this week I did a three-day campaign swing through central and northern Arizona. I recorded a 3-minute campaign message at KTVK in Phoenix, and spoke to Tea Party groups in Flagstaff and Scottsdale. This Sunday, I will take part in a live, televised debate that will include all four U.S. Senate candidates. It should be interesting!

4-way U.S. Senate candidates' debate set for Sept. 26

posted by David Nolan on Sep 09, 2010

KTVK-3TV in Phoenix has scheduled a debate that will include all four of Arizona's ballot-qualified U.S. Senate candidates: John McCain, Rodney Glassman, Jerry Joslyn and myself. It will run without commercial interruption from 6pm to 7pm on Sunday, Sept. 26.  This is most likely the only debate that McCain will agree to participate in.  If all goes well, the debate will significantly increase awareness of my campaign and could boost my standing in any polls that are taken.

Arizona's U.S. Senate Race Offers a Unique Opportunity

posted by David Nolan on Aug 30, 2010

Perhaps more than any other contest this year, the battle for the seat currently held by John McCain offers an opportunity to contrast the ideas of liberty with the big-government philosophy that now dominates the GOP.

Arizona held its primary election on August 24, and the results are interesting, to say the least. On the Republican side, incumbent U.S. Senator John McCain overcame two challengers to win with 56% of the vote. At first glance, this may appear decent, but it was actually a pathetic showing.

An evening with JD Hayworth

David Nolan cactusLast night I attended a rally for J.D. Hayworth, the right-wing Republican challenger to John McCain. I did so only because I was invited by his Southern Arizona Coordinator, and I wanted to see what kind of support he's drawing, what their issues are, and so forth.

Nolan interview with Sedona Times

Sedona, Arizona is an upscale resort town about 80 miles north of Phoenix. Yesterday a reporter from the Sedona Times  interviewed me about my U.S. Senate race. All things considered, it turned out pretty well.
